Walking, talking, doing the hula and disco dancing, the humanlike robot ASIMO showed students its talents Thursday at Coffman Union.

This humanlike robot named ASIMO can walk, talk, do the hula and disco dancing. ASIMO stands for Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility. It's creators call it the world's most advanced humanoid robot, made its Minnesota debut on a nationwide tour of engineering schools. It is approximately 4 feet tall and approximately 115 pounds. Blair Hickey, the show's host, said that there are 26 servomotors located throughout the machine that allow it to maintain balance. These sensors, which act like human joints, send immediate signals to the robot's central processing unit, located in its backpack, which allow it to plan ahead.
